Vaccinations: The Autism link

Vaccination safety has been considered as one of the most controversial topics which had numerous reports of being the cause of autism but some say that the protection from diseases and viruses are worth the possible risk of contracting autism. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) states on their website that “Vaccines are held to the highest standard of safety. The United States currently has the safest, most effective vaccine supply in history. Years of testing are required by law before a vaccine can be licensed. Once in use, vaccines are continually monitored for safety and effectiveness. However, like any medication, vaccines can cause side-effects.”

With the excessive number of reports of the contraction of autism being caused by vaccinations, cautious parents are waiving off their right to immunize their children especially now that outbreaks are uncommon in the present. In 2012 the CDC and Prevention’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network reported that one in eigthy-eight Americans have autism. Autism is a developmental disorder (social and communicational) linked to abnormal biology and chemistry in the brain. According to the ASDF (Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation) “More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined. Autism is the fastest growing developmental disorder in the United States.”

Many studies have looked at whether there is a relationship between vaccines and autism, studies continue to disprove that vaccines are associated with autism. The federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, better known as “vaccine court,” has awarded millions to children in cases that say that vaccines has caused them to contract autism. If autism is not caused by vaccines then why would The Federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program award millions to the children?
